The X2 Omni robot vacuum-mop is the latest model in Ecovacs line of robot vacuum mop hybrids. This model that is dry and wet comes with the upgraded AIVI 3D2.0 lidar system from Ecovacs, which provides enhanced mapping and obstruction-free operation. It uses dual laser LiDAR, which is similar to that found in self-driving vehicles. It can scan a space up to 32 feet by 360 degrees. That translates into more precise mapping, faster response times, and better cleaning accuracy.
It also comes with an alternating mopping mat made of chenille. This makes it much easier to scrub hard spots than traditional mopping. In my tests the X2 Omni took just over an hour to clean its pad and begin work, and I noticed that it was more precise than other models that seemed to follow a grid path around rooms. It was able to navigate my rooms with its corners and edges as well as make an "Zambani pattern" that ran up and down the middle of the room. It returned to its OMNI Station frequently to empty the dustbin, and clean the mop using hot water, before starting another cleaning task.
The X2 Omni is as simple to use and set up as other Ecovacs products. It takes just minutes to secure the dock into position, plug it in and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. You can then open the app to start your first cleaning project. I was able to customize my floor plan in about 15 minutes. This is the first mopping model made by Anker which is well-known for its robot vacuums. It comes with enhanced smarts, multiple map support, and LIDAR scanning, in addition to twin turbine suction technology that adapts to the surface you're cleaning. It's a mid-range robotic cleaner that's stylish even if the claim of being a one-stop shop for floor cleaning doesn't make sense.
The X8 Hybrid looks like a standard robotic vacuum cleaner from the top with its circular shape, sweeping wheels and a raised space for sensors. On the opposite side, you'll see a motorised floorbrush as well as a single side brush that pushes dust away from the edges and into the main artery of its' mouth.' It's smaller than the main brushes of the iRobot Roomba S9, which I discovered makes it easier to access under couches and chairs.
Its mapping system is reasonably sophisticated that allows you to create no-mop zones and specific cleaning zones. However it tends to bump into things (including its charging dock) and isn't the best in negotiating rug. It was great at collecting pet hair off carpets. In our tests, it picked up 89.5% kitty litter.
The X8 Hybrid is controlled via an app, but it also has physical buttons at its base. These buttons let you choose a cleaning mode or turn the robot off/on. These buttons can be used to establish zones that are not allowed to be visited and to access real-time maps. It's also a bit chatty, and will let you know what it's planning to do next (start cleaning) or notify you if something isn't working.
4. ILIFE A4s
This high-tech model sucks up pet hair, kibble and other messes with remarkable efficiency and maneuvers flawlessly around furniture legs. It also has an impressive feature set that includes two cleaning modes, a self-emptying dock, and real-time obstacle avoidance technology. The device that is Wi-Fi-connected can be controlled via the Neato App, where cleanings are scheduled and maintenance requirements are tracked. The X2 Omni is a great option for homes that have a mix of carpet and hard floors. However it will require some planning ahead to avoid getting caught by electrical cables, toys or other unexpected obstructions.
In our test of hardwood floors and kibble it performed well and was able to take everything from a single grain of rice to several pieces of dog food in just one pass. It had some difficulty transitioning to carpets, however, this vacuum cleaner is perfect for rooms that have flooring of all kinds and a mix of pets.
The A4s Pro is a bit expensive, but it's a great purchase for those who want to to leave the house with no hands on so they can do other things or take care chores. The A4s Pro has a convenient auto-cleaning mode that increases suction to get rid of tough dirt or spills. It also comes with a battery powered ElectroWall to set boundaries for the robot.
This budget-friendly robot from a popular brand is the cheapest we've tested and provides an outstanding value for money. Its navigation system is based on a very basic random pathing algorithm and it's not able to map rooms. This is why it's less effective than the other models on this list. It's still able to get under furniture and into corners. Its mopping mode performed very well in our tests, picking up stray hair and other debris.
5. Shark iQ
Shark's iQ may not appear as well-built, but it is better at cleaning pet hair from all surfaces. It clears bare floors more thoroughly and does a fair job on carpets with a low pile and also uses smart-pathing navigational technology for superior maneuverability. It also lets you transfer it to a particular room, and its sophisticated suite of automation features include no-go zones as well as scheduling. It even lets you to pause and resume cleaning sessions, so it's perfect for homes with pets.
Its self-cleaning brushroll is able to prevent knots and holds up to 30 day's worth of dirt. It has a set of angled side brushes that can reach into corners and a multi-stage filter system that captures dust, allergens and dander.
The iQ robot vacuum is well-built and feels solid. It has an app for smartphones that lets you change the vacuum settings and schedule cleaning sessions ahead of time. The iQ is great in cleaning floors with no dirt, and it does a decent job on carpets that are sagging and low-pile. However it doesn't provide the same level autonomy as our top choices. It's also costly and its recurring cost can add up.
